Maxillofacial Surgery Unit - S.C. Chirurgia-maxillo facciale e plastica ricostruttiva

Regional resolution of December 2008 identified and assigned responsibility for the treatment and diagnosis of labiopalatoschisis and craniofacial malformations to Maxillofacial Surgery Unit, in the sphere of rare diseases. The treatment of labiopalatoschisis involves correcting the lip, nose and soft palate at 6 months, followed by closing the hard palate at approximately 3 years. In January 2010, the skin tumour treatment project was launched in collaboration with the Pathological Anatomy Unit. The protocol establishes a fast track involving reading the histological exam in just 2 days when the surgical repair of the defect involves the use of flaps or implants, thus practically eliminating the risk of relapse.
