The Neurophysiology Unit provides specialist services for clinic and inpatients. Specifically the following laboratory exams are performed: standard electroencephalograph (EEG) or prolonged after sleep privation EEG, at bedside, in reanimation, video EEG, and paediatric EEG; simple electromyography (EMG), single fibre, or special muscle EMGs; motor electroneurography (VCM) and sensitive (VCS); H, F-Wave, sacral and blink reflex studies; pelvic floor studies; hearing, visual and motor sensory evoked potentials. In collaboration with the Vascular Surgery Unit and the Neurosurgery Unit, intra-operative neuro-physiological monitoring is performed respectively with the EEG and evoked potentials. In collaboration with the Reanimation Unit, EEG recordings are performed for the ascertainment of brain death. In the Neurophysiology Unit three specialised clinics are operative: a) for the diagnosis and care of epilepsy; b) for the diagnosis and care of headaches; c) for the diagnosis and care of neuro-muscular diseases.
